Welcome to Kangaroos
Hello, I am Mrs Peacock and I am the teacher of the amazing kangaroos! We are very lucky to have Miss White and Mrs Brown working with us and the other year one children too! We are always busy learning, exploring and most importantly having a great time in school. Check out all of our hard work below!
Local Area Walk
To kick start our Summer topic, we went on a walk around the local area to look for features. This will help us plan maps, and think about ways we can improve our school environment.
Australian Landscapes
We looked at the different landscapes of Australia and learnt facts about each one - ask you child to tell you more!
We then practised using different media in art, exploring charcoal, pastels, oil and water colour. We used these to create artwork of a chosen landscape.
Bowes Museum Trip - Finding out about old toys
World Book Day 2023
Science - Materials
Our spring science topic is materials. We have been exploring different types of materials and their properties.
We went outside to hunt for different materials and discussed their different properties and uses.
Next we will be planning and conducting an experiment using our material knowledge.
Maths - Place Value
In our maths lessons, we looked at representing numbers to 50 using tens and ones. We used the base 10 manipulatives to help us visualise this.
The Grown Ups who Came to Tea
The children worked very hard to plan a tea party for their grown ups inspired by the Judith Kerr story 'The Tiger who Came to Tea'. They have written invitations, letters and recipes in preparation for the big day. The children were very excited to share some party food and show their grown ups their lovely english books.
Christingle
All of the children really enjoyed the Christingle Service. Thank you for all of your support and attendance!
Self-Portraits
In Art we have been looking at the work of Van Gogh, focussing on his self portrait.
This inspired us to make our own. We used mirrors and sketched our face first, and then added colour using paint.
Ambulance Visit
This half term we have been learning about Florence Nightingale and the impact she had on nursing and hospital care.
We had a visit from the ambulance and compared it to Florence's horse and cart. We also learnt about the amazing job paramedics do and the best numbers to ring if we are hurt and need an ambulance.
Bugs 'n' Stuff
We were visited by Guy and his box full of surprises! We met lots of different animals: a blue tongued skink, a snake, cockroaches, stick insects and millipedes.
Did you know?
- All stick insects are female.
- Scorpions glow in the dark.
- Leaf insects are amazing.
and... BUGS AREN'T REALLY SCARY!
Continuous Provision
When we are not working with Mrs Peacock, we get the chance to apply our skills and knowledge in our independent activities.
Here are a few pictures to show what we have been doing so far.
Maths - Place Value
This half term we have been recapping numbers to 10.
We loved pretending to be blockzilla to represent < > = symbols.
The Human Body
This week, in Science, we have been learning about the human body.
We labelled the body parts we already knew and then research other body parts. Ask your child to tell you a fact about their body!
Mini Topic - Australian Animals
This week we have been learning about Australian animals. We have learnt lots of exciting facts. Ask us about them at home!
In DT this week, we practised our cutting and joining skills to make a moving animal.
