In Maths we will be learning about the number 8.

 

Every day we need you practise counting forwards and backwards from 0-20 (you can print the flashcards below or write numbers 0-20 on paper to help your child recognise the numerals too).

In school we will be exploring number 8. Please look through the ‘All about Number 8’ PowerPoint (below) and work through it with your child. Activities you can try at home:

 

Practise showing 8 on your fingers.

Order numbers; write the digits 0-8 (one on each piece of paper up to 8) and put them in the correct order.

Make a number line using the digits 0-9. Find 1 more and 1 less.

 

 

Now can you use a range objects around your home to…

Add up to 8?

Make 8?

Make 8 in different ways?

Practise writing the number 8.

Say the rhyme to help you form the numeral:

“All the way round don’t you stop, not until your back to the top.”

 

Now can you double numbers up to 8?

Sing the doubling song to help you.

You could use some dice to help you double.

How many different ways can you make 8?

Identify the odd and even numbers up to 8.

 

Try finding more. Use the printable worksheets to help you start with challenge 1, if this is too easy move onto challenge 2 and then to challenge 3.
