Spring Has Sprung
Howdy, and welcome back for the Spring Term!
This term will be filled with its usual mixture of fun, hard work and laughter, as we continue working towards the SATs in May. We will be continuing our study of Skellig in English and looking at the human circulatory system in Science. We'll take a look at how a Census works in History and where our energy comes from in Geography. PE remains on a Monday afternoon, so please ensure you are in PE kit on a Monday - perhaps with a warm pair of joggers and a hoodie/sweatshirt during the first couple of months - and after school on a Monday we are running a SATs club for EVERY child in Year 6 (completely free of charge!). Biscuits and juice and expert tuition from the Year 6 teachers are all part of the package!!
Here's to a fun-filled, hard-working Spring Term.
Yeehaw!!
Welcome to the Wild West
It's the start of a brand new year and I'd like to welcome all the new cowboys and cowgirls (cow-people!) to the Wild West - yeehaw!
Year 6 is always a busy year, what with SATs in May, but it's also an exciting year. In October, we will be heading for Newby Wiske - for our residential, where we climb, splash and bond with each other -, we'll be sharing our crafting skills in December with our Christmas Craft Fair and then in July, we'll be producing a Leaver's Show that will leave you breathless with excitement.
In between all of that, we will (of course) be learning a great many things. In English, we'll be looking at some Amazing Creatures, studying the novel Skellig, by David Almond, taking a night-time ride with the Highwayman and much much more. In Maths, we'll be practising our four operations, looking at fractions, decimals and percentages, converting measures and, eventually, touching on everybody's favourite aspect of Maths - algebra. In Science, we will study light, electricity, the human circulatory system, classification and evolution, while our History topics will take us back to World War 2, and also provide insight into a variety of historical figures. Along the way, we'll look at the Geography subjects of population, and where our energy comes from, design and make waistcoats and learn a variety of photographic techniques. Lots of learning, but also a great deal of fun.
Before I go, just a quick reminder that our PE session this year is on a Monday afternoon, and that everyone should come to school in their PE kit.
Looking forward to a good year ahead,
Mr Abbott
