Welcome to New York!
Welcome to the start of a very exciting year ... Year 6!
Year 6 is going to be a busy year, but it's also an exciting year. We will be voting for and deciding on our Pupil Leadership team very soon, we'll be crafting in December with our Christmas Craft Fair, SATs in May, heading to Newby Wiske in June for our residential and then in July, we'll be producing and performing a Leaver's Show.
In between all of that, we will also be learning a great variety of things. In English, we'll be looking at some Amazing Creatures, studying the novel Skellig, by David Almond, taking a night-time ride with the Highwayman and much much more. In Maths, we'll be practising our four operations, looking at fractions, decimals and percentages, converting measures and, eventually, touching on everybody's favourite aspect of Maths - algebra. In Science, we will study light, electricity, the human circulatory system, classification and evolution, while our History topics will take us back to World War 2, and also provide insight into a variety of historical figures. Along the way, we'll look at the Geography subjects of population, and where our energy comes from, design and make waistcoats and learn a variety of photographic techniques. What a lot of learning!
Just a quick reminder that our PE session this year is on a Tuesday afternoon, and that everyone should come to school in their PE kit.
Let's see what fun this year brings!
Mrs Hetherington
Welcome to the Spring Term. With SATs just over the horizon, we are working hard on our English and Maths every morning and then a few sessions of revision (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons for 45 minutes) to help out with anything that may be a little bit tricky. We will also have SATs club open to all pupils after the half term break.
Of course, we will still be doing work in other curriculum areas - looking at Science, PSHE, and more, and on the 26th January, we will be taking a short trip to complete a Geography survey based on the work we have been doing at the end of Autumn and during the first weeks of the Spring Term.
We may even, towards the end of this term, start thinking about our Year 6 Leaver's Production which, this year, will be Bugsy Malone! We'll start to learn the songs and begin thinking about costumes.
