Hello everyone and welcome to Peru class.
It is brilliant to see you all again.
I hope you are all looking forward to a brilliant year learning all about the next stages of your school career.
This term we will be focusing on the industrial revolution for our literary theme which will change each term of the year.
If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to ask me anytime (pupils) and I am available for a phone call most nights after school (parents) if needed. :)
Year 5 will have their PE lessons on Thursday afternoons. Children can arrive to school in non-branded black kit with a t-shirt representing their house colour. Trainers can be worn on PE days and regular school shoes are to be worn during the rest of the week. Please ensure kit is suitable for all weathers as British weather can be temperamental at best. Water bottles will be taken to sessions so please make sure children are bringing water with them daily.
We are continuing our use of Boom Reader to digitally record books that the children are taking home. We ask that, where possible, children are heard daily by a trusted adult and the pages read can be added to the Boom Reader App. Do get in contact with the school if there are any issues with accessing the app. Children can record any materials they have used when reading for pleasure e.g. library books, comics, personal copies from home etc.
When completing a school reading book, children need to complete a quiz on accelerated reader to test their understanding of what was read.
Industrial Revolution & Street Child
As we venture into our Year 5 curriculum we will be investigating the consequences of the Industrial Revolution (the good, the bad and the ugly ones). Through the study of our first novel, Street Child, we will step into the shoes of an orphan as he grows up in 1860s London and witness the highs and lows of street life during the Victorian era.
Peru class have been hard at work this year learning all about life in Victorian England during our Street Child English topic. They have explored the life of Jim Jarvis and his impact on Mr Barnardo creating the first schools and the positive changes this had on the lives of children through the ages.
We have enjoyed creating some art installations and learnt about mixtures and separations in Science, along with gaining a deeper understanding of states of matter. We have explored reversible an irreversible changes as well as properties of certain materials.
Now that we are entering the Spring term, Year 5 are hard at work on many new exciting and interesting topics.
We are looking at animation and stop-motion with computing and are about to start creating our very own mechanical pop-up books in DT lessons.
Peru are excited to explore the oceans and why they matter during Geography and, like me, are over the moon (yes, pun intended) about our new science topic being EARTH AND SPACE!!!!
Please see below for a collection of pictures from some of our more exciting and interactive learning from over the past few modules of this year's curriculum.
[I will be adding more throughout the coming weeks]
