Year 4 – Thailand

World Book Day 2026 For World Book Day, the children took part in Reader’s Theatre. They worked in groups to prepare short performances of The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood. They practised reading with expression, used clear voices and thought carefully about how their characters would sound. After rehearsing, each group performed their play to the class. The children showed great confidence and teamwork, and they were brilliant actors. It was a great way to celebrate reading and bring familiar stories to life.

In English today, we worked on a set of instructions linked to rebuilding Roz from The Wild Robot. The children first sorted the instructions, thinking carefully about which were useful and which did not match the purpose. They then organised the useful instructions into the correct time order. It was great to see them discussing their choices and justifying their reasoning.

Next was an indoor skiing relay, where the children raced through cones and showed great speed and agility. The hall was full of energy and encouragement. We then held a curling event. The children aimed to knock each other’s balls off the target, developing accuracy, teamwork and resilience. To finish, we took part in a bobsled race, shuffling towards the finish line in a fast and competitive final event. It was a brilliant session filled with teamwork and determination. I was very proud of the enthusiasm and sportsmanship shown throughout.

What an exciting day in PE as we celebrated the Olympic Winter Games. We began with a warm up inspired by the Olympic torch. The children balanced balls on cones and competed to be the last one standing, earning the title of Olympic Champion.

Our students have been diving into the world of coding with Scratch! They’ve been learning about variables through fun maths and animal questions. By using ‘if, then’ control statements, they create unique responses based on user input. This hands-on approach not only enhances their coding skills but also encourages critical thinking.

During Wellbeing Week, we have started each morning and afternoon with simple activities to help the children feel calm, focused and ready to learn. We have practised yoga, followed mindfulness bubble activities and enjoyed energetic movement breaks like Banana Banana Meatballs, which quickly became a class favourite. It has been lovely to see the children relaxed, smiling and supporting each other throughout the week.

Fantastic news from our Writer of the Week assembly! Freddie won our class award for his atmospheric sentences, using emotion comma sentences, conjunctions and fronted adverbials to build cohesion, alongside rich sensory detail. Evelyn was chosen as the overall Year 4 writer and received a book prize for her outstanding recount and beautiful handwriting. Well done to you both.

Amazing Achievents in Thailand! We’ve won the Best Attendance award for last week and the Polite and Respectful Lunchtime Award this week.

Writing This half term, our English learning is based around the text 'MacBeth'. Our first 'unit' developed our writing skills so that we could include fronted adverbials, emotion sentences and use appropriate past tense verbs (irregular ones!). Take a look at some of our writing!

Yesterday afternoon, we made our Christmas crafts ready for the fayre. Both crafts were admittedly a little tricky but with some resilience and perseverance, the children managed to create some fantastic Christmas trees and Rudolph reindeers. The Christmas trees will be sold at £1.50, Rudolph for £1 and biscuits for 20p each, which we are making this afternoon.

For those families in Thailand that wish to send Christmas cards this year, here is a list of the names of children in our class.

Today, our students had a blast building frame structures using pasta, marshmallows and Blu Tack! They created a variety of frame structures for a pavilion. Focusing on triangular prisms and cubes, they explored the principles of building strong structures while infusing their designs with creativity inspired by iconic landmarks such as The Crystal and The Beehive Pavilion at Kew Gardens. It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to apply their learning in a real-world context, fostering both teamwork and innovation.

Last week in English, the children have been learning how to write persuasively. They wrote letters as Charlie Bucket, trying to convince Mr Wonka to give them a golden ticket. They impressed me with their use of persuasive techniques like rhetorical questions, repetition for effect, the rule of three, and emotional language. We also focused on using high-level vocabulary to make their arguments stronger. To finish the week, we held a class competition to choose the most persuasive letters. Five children received golden tickets and a small chocolate treat. It was a tough decision because everyone produced excellent work.

Thank you to everyone who supported Children in Need today. The children looked great in their comfy clothes and enjoyed a range of activities this afternoon.

In art, we have been inspired by Henri Matisse and other artists to explore the technique of painting with scissors. The children created striking pieces by cutting up images and arranging them carefully on the page. We then moved on to wax resist art, where we focused on contrast. The children used hatching and cross-hatching to make bold patterns before scratching off their designs to reveal vibrant colour underneath. Today, we used viewfinders to select a section of our artwork and turned it into a block painting. The children created new patterns in their books and worked together to produce a fantastic class piece.

A big shoutout to Thailand class for winning Best Attendance in KS2 last week! Thank you to all the children and parents for helping us achieve this. Brilliant effort all around! 😊

Rainforest Rhythms!
Over the past few weeks in music, we’ve been exploring how to use our bodies as percussion instruments.
Today, the children used stomping, clapping, booming and snapping to represent different animals in the rainforest, linking to our geography topic.
As you can see, we had some fantastic tiger pounces and elephant stomps! The children had a brilliant time expressing sound through movement and rhythm.

In today’s history lesson, we used hot seating to ask and answer questions about what it was like to be a child in the past!

Welcome to Thailand Class!

I am pleased to welcome you to Thailand Class.

We will work hard across all subjects, from maths and reading to science and art, and celebrate achievements as we go.

Important reminders for Thailand Class:

  • PE is on Thursday; children should come to school in their PE kit.

  • Homework is due on Friday and will include: spelling books, Times Tables Rock Stars, and reading (recorded on Boom Reader and quizzed on Accelerated Reader).

  • Times Tables Rock Stars will be used weekly; we encourage children to use Garage Mode as it targets the questions they need to practise and gives the best improvement.

  •

I look forward to the year ahead and to seeing what we can achieve together.
