Year 4 – Thailand

Welcome to Thailand Class!

Hi Everyone, I'm Miss Thompson and I'm extremely proud to be the class teacher of Thailand Class this year!

With lots and lots of exciting things ahead, lets put pencil to paper and get this year started...

Take a look at Thailand's Class Timetable - Don't forget, P.E. is on a Thursday so come to school in your P.E. kit!

In English, to understand the character of Mr Willy Wonka and his feelings towards the betrayal of his workers, we devised open-ended questions to ask during a hot-seating activity.

In science, as part of our Electricity topic, we spent time exploring how switches work and why they are useful through an electrical circuit game.

Harvest Festival!

As part of our Geography work, we were required to conduct field work. We visited a local woodland to find out how it is used; practising data collection skills of questioning, sketching and live data logging.

In English, we have been working on writing a persuasive letter as Charlie Bucket, trying to persuade Mr Willy Wonka to allow us to enter his fantastic Chocolate Factory without a golden ticket. we did such a fantastic job that when we opened our books, Mr Willy Wonka gave us a golden ticket that we could exchange for a chocolate bar!

In Music, our focus for this term has been body percussion. We have worked collaboratively to create rhythms; both in pairs and small groups.

Children in Need!

In Science, we have been learning all about the digestive system; with our second lesson focussing on the different types of teeth. To do this, we used playdough to create model replicas of Incisors, canines, pre-molars and molars.

This week, we have put on our reporter's hat and asked a range of questions to understand the key events which led to Augustus Gloop and Veruca Salt finding the first two golden tickets. This will then help us with writing direct speech in our news reports next week.

In our first lesson of DT, we explored a range of frame structures using modelling clay and either spaghetti or tooth picks.

To support our learning and understanding with dividing a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number, we used manipulatives during a whole class activity as we were finding the concept of exchanging slightly challenging. However, with perseverance and resilience, we got there in the end!

To continue our learning of division in Year 4, we have moved onto dividing 3-digit numbers by a 1-digit number, including where remainders are left over.

In Computing, we have combined our learning of how to code using with Scratch with our times tables to create our own version of the MTC. We even managed to use variable to ensure it worked effectively!

E-Safety Day 2025 - Keeping our Personal Information safe!

In geography, we have been exploring the topic of where our food comes from. In lesson 2, we looked at Trading Responsibly and to show our understanding, we created a PowerPoint Presentation in pairs.

In today’s English lesson, we worked collaboratively to plan a character description of Count Olaf by drawing upon our previous learning of adjectives, expanded noun phrases, similes and direct speech to reveal character and personality traits

World Book Day 2025!

Aspirations Day 2025!

In Geography, we are focussing upon where our food comes from. Lesson 5 required us to collect Qualitative Data from our school cook to answer the question: 'Are our school dinners locally sourced?'

In our first lesson of Economic Wellbeing, we were either assigned the role of ‘Seller’ or ‘Buyer’ and were required to determine whether an item was ‘Value for Money’, negotiating if we thought the price should be lower because of the factors which determine whether an item has ‘Value for Money’ or not.

Our Spring term D.T. Project... Exploring Mechanical Systems: Making a Slingshot Car

Our Year 4 Showcase Assembly was fantastic! Thank you to all the parents who came and joined in with the children's learning - even if they took great pleasure in putting you all to the test!
