Year 2 Curriculum Snapshot
Topics we are covering in Year 2:
Autumn | Spring | Summer |
Journeys Our very first topic is all about Journeys. We look at journeys around school as well as journeys across the globe. We find out about two important people who made a big contribution to the way in which we make our journeys. One of them is even from Darlington and you may have spotted his name around our town! In addition, we make our very own mode of transport with a working axle and wheels.
| Amazing Africa Africa is a wonderful topic that we study in the Spring Term. We learn about some African animals known as ‘The Big Five’, conduct research on these animals and create our own fact files. We make beautiful African art and compare our own lives to the lives of children in the country of Kenya while also studying a fiction book based in the same country called ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’. We learn how important music is to the African people and learn some simple call and response African drumming patters, we also make a well-known African recipe! | Scented Garden In the Summer Term, we receive a visit from a creature who needs our help! It is up to the Year 2 children to explore and build a garden suitable for the creature in need. The children use their art and design skills to create different objects to add to the garden. The children are able to look back at how the Harrowgate Hill site has changed over time and track weather patterns in our local area.

Key Stage 1 came together for a Christmas party! We had lots of fun in our classrooms playing Christmas bingo, pass the parcel and just dance before going along to the hall for lots of dancing, singing and more games! We finished off our day with some party snacks.
We all had lots of fun and looked amazing in our party clothes!
