Pandas

Welcome to Pandas! We chose our name because this year we are learning lots about Hong Kong. So far, we have looked at the geographical features, religion, animals and much more. We will continue to learn more about Hong Kong through the year.

We have really enjoyed looking at the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age this term. We had a wonderful visitor who taught us lots of fascinating information about the different periods. We have been using this information along with our own research to write newspaper articles, letters and even plan our own advertisement for one of their inventions!

Another lesson we have loved is our Jigsaw lessons where we work with Jino. We have looked at working together in a team, how to resolve conflict and what to do if we or others are being bullied. In this lesson we also do a mindfulness activity which really helps us to keep calm and stay focused in our lesson.

In November 2018, we raised money for 'Children In Need'. We had a Mufti Day and during golden time some of us even made our own Pudsey!

In December 2018, we held our very first Craft Fayre which Pandas worked really hard on. We created products to sell, designed posters, wrote instructions, decided on prices and much more. We really loved taking part in the Craft Fayre and are really proud of us selling out!

Take a look at the pictures below to see what we have been doing in the Autumn Term...

We loved learning about the Stone Age.

Christmas Fayre 2018

Christmas Party Day 2018

We have been very busy in Pandas during the Spring Term!

We dressed up as our favourite characters on World Book Day and took part in lots of book themed activities. We created our own comic strip based on a superhero and villain we created ourselves. During the day we heard a noise play and we had to stop what we were doing and read our book for 10 minutes. It was so funny to know that everyone in the school was reading at the same time!

The fun didn't stop there as we took part in Crazy Hair Day to raise money for Comic Relief. We all worked so hard on our hairstyles and it was fantastic to see how creative we can all be. Our classroom was covered in glitter by the end of the day!

In Pandas we designed and made our own Easter egg cups to sell at the Easter fayre. We had lots of fun creating our own egg cups and learning how to maypole dance in our PE lessons. It was so interesting learning a new school and we loved showing off everything we had learned in our lessons.

In April, we went on a school trip to Beamish to learn all about what life was like in our area in the 1900's. We visited lots of places such as the dentist, the school and colliery. It was really interesting to find out about schools from the past as they were so different to our school. Did you know, they would have around 90 pupils per class? We saw lots of delicious sweets in the sweet shop and even got to watch some being made!

In our English lessons, we loved learning all about Gangsta Granny by David Walliams. We found it hilarious and loved reading all about Granny and Ben's adventures. Although, we didn't want to try Granny's famous cabbage soup! We created our own freeze frames of different parts in the story. We really had to focus on our facial expressions as that was the only way we could communicate how we were feeling.

We made graphs and bar charts out of the practical resources!
