Dear Parents,

Your child has taken home a  learning pack today which consists of a Maths and an English booklet for their relevant Year Group as well as an exercise book with a project based task. The packs will support what we have already taught this year.

Please do not start these packs (unless your child is self-isolating). These packs have been prepared in the event that schools are nationally closed as a result of Government recommendations.

These packs will not be marked as passing them all back into school increases potential infection, they are designed to support student study at home.

Additional Learning Activities could include:

  • Frequent reading (1:1 or as a family)
  • Oliver Jeffers (The Author of ‘Lost & Found’) is reading one of his texts, daily at 6pm (on his Instagram Account)
  • Baking (links to weighing and measuring)
  • Playing board/ card games
  • Making play dough
  • Playing with/ sorting money, writing a shopping list (you could research prices online)

Hello, I'm Mrs Melling!

I am now proud to be the class teacher in Year 1 - Kookaburra Class. In Kookaburra class we are all welcoming, caring and respectful. Keep an eye on our class page to see what we're getting up to!

We had a great day on World Book Day. We dressed in our pyjamas and slippers. It was fun drinking hot chocolate in the library. We decorated some potatoes to look like book characters at home and had a competition to find the best ones.

This term year 1 are learning all about toys. We all brought in a favourite toy from home to describe.

We are in Australasia corridor and year 1 are learning all about Australia. this term were learned about the aborigines, the art they did and the instruments they play. We designed our own didgeridoos. Some of us painted them, some of us used crayons and felt tip to decorate them. It was lots of fun, especially when we tried to play them. It's quite difficult and you have to blow very hard.

Today Kookaburra class did their assembly to parents/carers. It was all about space. We all said our words clearly and sang some songs. We even did a Just Dance Space!!! We were really proud of ourselves. Our costumes were great fun to make. Some of us were astronauts and some of us were aliens.

Kookaburra class have been learning about seasons as part of their Science work. They enjoyed collecting signs of Autumn together and putting them in bottles.

This term we visited St. Marks Church to look at the features inside. Father Paul told us all about the different things inside. We enjoyed walking amongst the Autumn leaves and our teacher was very proud of how well behaved !
